St. Ides Malt Liquor Ads

In the early '90s, St. Ides, and a number of other malt liquor companies began to explicitly target young black males in their advertising campaigns. While they received a lot of criticism for these ads (and rightly so) there is something fascinating about watching Biggie rap about how "I used to be a hustler/ Now I'm a 22 brew guzzler" or seeing Method Man & Redman tell us that "It's where the truth is." On the other hand, Chuck D, of Public Enemy, has been quite outspoken against malt liquor and even filed a $5 million law suit against St. Ides for using an unauthorized sample of his voice in one of their ads. Seeing that I had all four of my wisdom teeth ripped out of my mouth two days ago, and now I'm stuck at home with a bad case of puffy cheeks, I figure I might as well spend some time updating my new blog.


I love this video. It was just released as the second official video for Kid Cudi's "Day 'N' Nite" and was directed by So Me who also directed Justice's D.A.N.C.E. and Kanye's Good Life.
